Laos is going all out to make the delegates’ welcome at the ASEM Summit next month a truly unique affair, with the release of the song Asia-Europe Chai pa san Chai. This novel song which, roughly translated, means ‘Asia-Europe connecting hearts’ was composed by Bounlieb Phengsanouvong and is the product of a collaborative effort between 26 artists from a variety of musical backgrounds.
The recording was spearheaded by Mee Soulinthon. The artists who feature on the song were invited to do so by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The honour roll includes some of the most popular names in Lao music, such as Sak of The Cells, Ola Black Eyes, Sam Inthalaphithak, and Aluna.

The words of the song aim to promote the meeting, while reflecting the unity to be found in Laos and the hospitable nature of its people.
The lyrics speak of the importance of the ASEM partnership for building friendship between Asia and Europe, and encourages all Lao people to support next month’s meeting. One of the singers, Buratino, said it was a pleasure to be part of such a project and said it was now up to the Lao people as the hosts of the Summit to demonstrate the Lao spirit and culture that the song speaks of. The song can be heard on the radio and a music video is expected to be released by the end of the month.
